How Our Lessons Are Structured
At Westerhoff, we believe that a strong foundation in music and art comes from consistency, clear goals, and a thoughtful progression of learning. Rather than operating on an open-ended week-to-week basis, we follow a semester-based structure that provides students with a more meaningful and rewarding educational experience.
New students are welcome to join at any point during the semester. If you're new to Westerhoff, you can start with a single introductory lesson before committing to the whole semester. This allows students to experience our teaching approach and ensure a great fit before enrolling for the full term.
Our academic year is divided into three sessions:
- Fall Semester (September – January)
- Spring Semester (February – June)
- Summer Session (July & August)
Each semester is carefully structured to support student growth, culminating in end-of-semester recitals that showcase their progress. This approach ensures students stay engaged, work toward tangible goals, and develop their skills in a way that fosters confidence and long-term success.
Additionally, built-in breaks throughout the year allow for rest and reflection, preventing burnout while keeping students motivated and eager to learn.
By following a semester model, we provide more than just lessons—we offer a comprehensive, well-paced learning experience that helps students reach their full potential.

"We continue to be amazed by Westerhoff School of Music and Art. They provide a great environment and experienced instructors who are able to provide great learning base and teach in an engaging manner which helps enhance your child's curiosity, creativity and confidence. My child currently takes guitar lessons from Mr. John and he has been nothing but amazing. He's a talented musician who enjoys teaching and is great with kids. I would highly recommend."
